The bioplastic cutlery is made of a compostable bioplastic. The material is called PLA and is made of renewable cornstarch. It’s plant-based and plastic-free. PLA has a low melt point, so is best for cold use up to around 40℃ . Where more heat resistance is needed such as in cutlery, or lids for coffee or soup, we use a crystallised form. This involves adding chalk to the PLA to act as a catalyst, and then rapidly heating and cooling the PLA resin during production. By adding a small amount of chalk, the material was made heat-resistant up to 85℃ . The chalk is also the reason the cutlery is completely white. The strong material called CPLA makes sure the cutlery do not break easily. Very convenient for parties, catering or on the go. Our CPLA products are still suitable for industrial composting, in either in-vessel or open windrow composting.

Our CPLA cutlery has BPI, OK Compost, FDA, SGS certification, etc. These certifications demonstrate the compostable capability and the safety of food contact.

The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) is a not-for-profit association of key individuals and groups from government, industry and academia. The BPI certification program applies science-based testing to prove a material will compost in a municipal or commercial facility and leave no toxic or lingering plastic residues in the soil.
